DevOps, Platform & Security Engineer (Contract)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced DevOps, Platform & Security Engineer to support and maintain a cloud-based SaaS platform hosted on AWS. This individual will be responsible for ensuring platform reliability, security, and performance while supporting software deployments, infrastructure automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a cloud-first environment, has strong AWS and Terraform experience, and enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production infrastructure issues
• Maintain and enhance AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform
• Support CI/CD pipelines and application deployments
• Manage containerized workloads and cloud networking
• Maintain cloud security, IAM, secrets management, and compliance best practices
• Monitor system performance, logging, alerting, and infrastructure health
• Support database administration, backups, upgrades, and disaster recovery planning
• Create and maintain infrastructure documentation and operational runbooks
• Partner with engineering teams to improve platform reliability, scalability, and automation
• Participate in platform modernization and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience administering AWS cloud environments
• 5+ years of Terraform experience supporting production infrastructure
• Experience with:
• AWS services including ECS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, S3, ALB, and ElastiCache
• CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, or similar)
• Container technologies and infrastructure automation
• Linux administration and shell scripting
• Strong troubleshooting and incident response experience
• Excellent written communication skills
• Comfortable leveraging AI tools to improve productivity and operational efficiency
• Must be located in North or South America

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting SOC 2, HIPAA, or HITRUST environments
• Experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL administration
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails environments
• Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog or OpenTelemetry
• AWS cost optimization experience
• Experience with policy-as-code and infrastructure security tooling
